CedarBridge Students Learn About Golf Courses
Twenty CedarBridge Academy students recently took part in lessons on golf and course maintenance offered by Ocean View Golf Club, learning about “the history of the facility, hospitality in the golfing industry, and how to play the sport.”
A spokesperson said, “Education comes in all venues and when Ocean View Golf Club approached CedarBridge Academy, offering lessons in golf and course maintenance and operations, 20 students agreed.
“Students learned about the history of the facility, hospitality in the golfing industry, and how to play the sport.”
“One student, interested in grounds maintenance, was introduced to course maintenance and agronomy tutored by the dedicated groundscrew at Ocean View. Subsequently this young man was offered a summer employment opportunity. He will be working and learning the trade at the same time.
“President of the golf club Cheryl-Lynne Thompson along with Head Professional Brian Morris and Assistant Professional O J Pitcher and Principal Kalmar Richards organized this 10 session training period.”
“Additionally the Director of Operations Mr. Greg Maybury, Superintendent Dennis Pilgrim, Restaurant concessionaire Mr. Ray Dowling collaborated with Cedarbridge faculty Deputy Principal Mr. Chris Swan, Career Officer Mr. LaVar Bassett, IT Teacher Mr Duval Robinson and Director Mrs. Donna Swainson Robinson to ensure the program was a great success.”
“A great relationship has been formed between the school and the golf course. Both parties are looking forward to continuing the programme in September.
“It really proves that if we all work together providing our time and support, amazing things can happen for our young people. Hats off to CedarBridge faculty and the Ocean View team for following and achieving this vision.
“Congratulations to the CedarBridge Academy participants.”
